1. Creating a Storage System

When you think of copper golems, you think of storage systems. And building a storage system is the most efficient way to use copper golems.

Technically to make a copper system as efficient as it can be, you should place a copper a copper golem inside a minecart (so it does not move) roughly in the middle of the 10 chests and a copper chest nearby it so that the copper golem can access them.

I just don't do it, because I like the idea of copper golems walking and working inside a factory.

Potential Problems to Look Out for When Making A Storage System Using Copper Golems

Copper Golems Rechecking Already Checked Chests

Unfortunately, the Copper Golem is only able to check 10 chests at a time before "resetting" to a new search.

Meaning, after the 10th searched chests, they will do another search task but they may check previously checked chests.

You can solve this issue by having 9 chests containing items you want to be stored and the 10th chest being an output chest.

The output chest's role is to transfer the items inside into another copper chest (which we will now call input chest).

As you may have already guessed, we will be using hoppers to transfer the items inside the output chest to inside another input chest.

Copper Golems Putting Items Inside Output Chests Before Checking All Nearby Chests

There was a problem that I encountered when designing the Storage System. Since the beginning input chest was in the middle, it made it so that the copper golems are able to place the item they are holding inside the output chest or the 10th chest (the one with the hopper below it), WITHOUT checking previous chests first.

So to solve this problem, all I did was move the beginning input chests like the picture I provided above.

When creating your own storage system, be sure to place your input chests in a way that the copper golems has to check all 9 chests first before placing it inside the output chests.

Slow Item Transfer Speed When Using Hoppers

To deal with this problem, I decided to use Minecart with Hopper because it has an incredibly fast transfer speed (20 items per second in Java).

I did not have to renew the whole system but simply add on an extra minecart with hopper above the hopper.

Though unlikely, I also removed the rails below the minecart with hopper and added a block to to prevent it from ever moving due to being possibly pushed by the copper golem or something as small or smaller.

Use Minecart with Hopper to speed up the transportation of items.

No more space

When there's no more space, you can either make a dropper that drops down items to the basement or create a water elevator to transfer items in an upper floor.

I have also connected the hopper to a dispencer which is powered by a simple redstone clock. This way, items will be dropped inside the water elevator, which then will elevate it to the next floor.

2. Trash Sorter

Now technically a trash sorter is just another storage system, but its purpose is much more practical and cost efficient.

The trash sorter is best built near farms or connected with them. You can also built them inside your base for easy sorting after mining.

Here we only use a maximum of 9 double-sided chests (so 9 items of your choosing) and an output chest (can be double or one).

The idea here is that once you dump your items in the input chest, your 9 chosen items will remain in the room for easy access while other items will be transported into chests in another room with no real sorting or maybe even disposed of by using cacti.

3. Redstone Clock Alternative

A lesser known feature of the Copper Golem is their ability to push copper buttons. The frequency of how often they push copper buttons however is random.

This can work as a redstone clock, but it's unpredictable, it can be either slow or fast. Hard to say.

4. Secret Bases / Secret Chests / Secret Room

When fully oxidized, Copper Golems becomes statues and unable to move (you can reverse this effects by right-clicking with your axe) which can used as a decorative item.

The neat thing about these statues is that it also outputs signal strengths of 1, 2, 3, or 4 depending on their current pose when connected to comparators. And best part is, that you can change its pose by interacting with it.

Signal Strengths:

  • Default / Standing Pose = 1
  • Sitting Pose = 2
  • Running Pose = 3
  • Star Pose = 4

Meaning you may built some sort of secret room or secret chests with the use of 1 or more statues.

5. TNT Cannon Reloader

You have probably seen the memes and clips before the copper update (1.21.9 Java) has been made available, but you can use Copper Golems to load your TNT cannons, which is just insane.
